Teaching is the best job I ever stumbled into. I was taking screenwriting classes at Playwright's Theater when my teacher asked me to be his assistant. That was crazy fun and when he left a year later, they asked me to take over and I loved it even more. Who knew that sharing your passion with others was so rewarding and addictive?
Soon, I was teaching screenwriting and filmmaking at night school, in libraries, and guest lecturing in high schools. I wanted more and I realized that there were no actual filmmaking schools in New Jersey at the time. So, my wife and I opened NJ Film School in 2009.
Over the years, I taught over a thousand students (kids, teens, and adults) screenwriting, directing, acting, cinematography, editing, and more. Many of them have gone on to work in the industry and I couldn't be prouder. But, honestly, the best part was running a family business where our students felt like extended family and we all got to share the joy of creating things together.
In 2023, we closed NJ Film School, I retired from full-time teaching, and I focused on making my feature. Now, I'm semi-retired and back working with students one-on-one, teaching classes part-time, and lecturing on movies.
One-on-One:
I am available for private sessions primarily focused on:
- Screenwriting: Lessons, Script Analysis, and Assignments
- Directing: Film Prep, Production, and Assignments
- Editing: Lessons, Evaluation, and Assignments
- College Film Major: Application and Submission Guidance
Let's work together.
Classes:
I still love teaching and I am currently running screenwriting classes through Farmstead Arts and The Writer's Circle.
